My Comments on the Race

Monadnock Speedway May 9, 2009

Hey everyone its Paul here. May 9th I was finally able to break my Monadnock Speedway curse. Every time we visit this track we run well but the last laps have found us spinning and even sliding upside down on my roof down the backstretch wall! Our previous best finish was a 3rd, but all that is over now as we brought home a victory. The BobcatTurf/Interstate Batteries/C&M Autobody #81 was good right out of the trailer. The #44 of James Logan was the only other car in practice to run times close to ours. Luck of the draw found us starting 3rd in our heat, and I had the lead exiting turn 2 and went on to win. Logan started on the pole for his heat and won easily setting up a front row showdown for the feature. At the start of the race Logan got a jump on me going down the front stretch, but I drove it hard into turn one so he could not clear me and pull down. Coming hard out of turn 2 he lost control on the outside and spun in front of the whole field. I stabbed the brakes and made some minor contact as he came across the track, and luckily the rest of the field was able to miss him. On the restart I pulled away from the field knowing that Logan would probably be back up front toward the end. A lap 21 caution would bunch us up and just as I thought Logan was in my mirror for the restart. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to hold him off, but in 9 laps he never got underneath me and I brought it home for back to back wins in the ALNRS. I was so excited that we broke the curse I forgot to take my victory lap with the checkered flag. Even though it is early in the season it was another good point’s day as we look to winning the ALNRS championship for 2009. We will be traveling down to South Boston, VA for our next race where we hope to build on our 4th place finish in our last Tour race. Wish me luck. I’ll let you know what went on in my next post.

Paul
